What effect will you see on the meters monitoring the >power supply voltage and current of the amplifier? Aside from the power lost in the circuit loss resistances, contacts, wiring, tanks etc. The rest will buck and boost the tube static voltage and current. Since the signal is symmetric, the net effect on the meters will be nil, summed to zero by the mechanical inertia of the meters. The signal really disappears into the energy storage of the power supply decoupling circuit. I did what the others all suggested; pull the tubes and apply voltage slowly with a variac. Since I didnt know how long it would take to reform the caps, I put 10 volts into the line for a few hours. Then increased it by 10 every day until full line voltage was going in. It ran each day for a few hors while I was in the shack to watch it. Seems to have been a good idea, the amp works great. Also, there was no control cable with mine. I drilled a small hole 2 inches away from the old socket, and put in an RCA phono socket. Problem solved for 39 cents. -pat -- *-----------------------------------------------------------* * Pat Masterson D12-25 | KE2LJ@KC2FD * * Grumman Data Systems | 516-346-6316. * * Bethpage, NY 11746 | bat@gdstech.grumman.com * ------------------------------ Date: 26 Apr 94 21:33:01 From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!usc!elroy.jpl.nasa.gov!ncar!csn!news.usafa.af.mil!usafa2!jcmiller@network.ucsd.edu Subject: FCC computers To: info-hams@ucsd.edu In article <Coqr6D.Ho0@news.Hawaii.Edu> jherman@uhunix3.uhcc.Hawaii.Edu (Jeffrey Herman) writes: In article <2pce2c$ri1@spool.cs.wisc.edu> jhanson@yar.cs.wisc.edu (Jason Hanson) writes: > >Whoa, slow down! To: info-hams@ucsd.edu HI FOLKS, I'm not sure that this is the correct group to post this question to, but none of the *.military.* groups seem correct correct either. If this post offends you, I apologize. Now that I have cleared my conscience... I'm looking for info & merchandise. A friend of mine has this former USArmy bag that he "acquired" while attending a Boy Scouts summer camp in west Tennessee (this was around the mid-80's). There were several others that were bagged (pun intended) by his partners in crime. Until recently, we thought it had been a map bag, but a few weeks ago someone told my friend that it was a bag for a field radio. Either one seems reasonable & I'm looking for both a definitive answer as to what it is and a source for getting more of them because it's a really handy size. Here's a description of it; the dimensions are approximations (ie: + or - 2"): 11" tall X 9" wide X 4" deep (front to back), olive drab w/ "US" dyed into to cover flap (looks authentic), full height snap-close pockets on each end, a small pocket on the front (flap cover only, no snap), pen holder(s?), two 1" straps w/metal ends that wrap around (over the top, back to front) to secure the cover flap, another 1" strap wraps around the sides & ties in the front for a more secure closure, & there are metal grometts at the top of each end for clipping on it's 3" web shoulder strap. It's made of heavy fabric (not canvas, though) & there is some kind of plastic-like lining (very deteriorated) adhered to the inside. There is some mostly illegible text printed on the inside of the cover flap but a fairly distinct "1967" or "1969". Can anyone verify what kind of bag this is & point me to a source for them? I've scoured Army Surplus & many catalogs for 4 years & have yet to find a twin. E-mail preferred, but posting is OK. The word is that the two together greatly >irritated the Sheriff and drove the coercive activity that relieved Chris >of his HT. There were two related circumstances that caused this to get blown out of porportion a bit. First, about two weeks before Boyer called in his "emergency" on an SO frequency, there was another person who had been jamming the SO frequencies using similar equipment, so they were particularly sensitive at the time this happened. Second, I have heard that Boyer is an engineer for a local radio or TV station and he admitted in that meeting with the FCC engineer that he had modified his amateur HT so he could use it on his station's commercial UHF repeaters and that he regularly used it on those frequencies. I think this second item is why the FCC went along with the SO in regard to confiscating the radio because it was not type-accepted for that use. I believe the radio is still in limbo somewhere, but RACES never did get it. Hopefully, Chris will get it back someday. I have used port 3 for a temperature sensor and port 4 for a psu voltage monitor in my local test nodes. I have included a document (in MS WORD format) called HOTNCOLD.DOC for anybody who wishes to attempt to add the temperature sensor to the node. I would be happy to hear of any other uses these ports get used for around the world. There will be no PCB this time! Especially as ports 3 & 4 are user defined!
